This is the first render of our completed film. It is now subject to critical audience evaluation, for us to act upon if there is any major feedback saying we need to change something.

Extra Scenes

This is a precaution we decided to take incase our film didn't quite make the five minute target. Below will be a couple of ideas for extra scenes we can do, or extend if our film doesn't make it.

Idea One - Extension of Scene 4
Instead of Adrian been stood next to the homeless man, and putting his money in the cup, the film rewinds to the beginning, and ends by fading to black, and showing Adrian reversing back into the room from which he started in. He will awaken in the room, and believe that he was dreaming. His co-worker will say his name, but then Adrian will realise his shift is over, and leave the room. As he proceeds through the building, another co-worker will greet him how he did in Adrian's 'dream'. This makes him nervous, and he continues out of the building, until he sees the homeless man again, whom once again asks him to spare some change. This time, Adrian spares the change, and drives away in his car. The events of what he thought was a dream, still fresh in his mind.

Idea Two - Scene 4 and Scene 5
Adrian doesn't see the homeless man at the end of Scene 4, and believes entirely that he was dreaming, and the co-worker was a complete coincidence. In Scene 5, he returns home after work. Unlocks his door, then goes to turn the alarm off, but notices it isn't switched on. He was sure it was. He hangs up his coat, takes off his tie, and goes into the kitchen for a drink of water. When he gets the water, he goes into the living room, turns on the TV, and sits down to watch the TV. He notices a necklace on the side. The necklace of the homeless man. After realising, the lights go out, and the television turns off. The electric is out. Then he hears a knock on the door. He goes to answer it, but when he does, no one is there. Except the Karma Demon, standing behind him. The scene fades to black.

It is looking quite likely now, that aspects of both of these scenes will be used in our film, and that is why it's going to be uploaded to the blog.

Progress Diary 01/03/2013

On this day we had to get the rest of the filming done as we didn't finish it all from the last filming day. We filmed the scene where Sean wakes up in the office and looks around the room in shock. His co worker is sat in the corner and asks him what is up. We filmed this scene in one of the old media rooms because we had to make sure the room looked like an office. We also carried on editing the film before we started filming to make sure that we were up to date. We uploaded all the footage from the filming day onto the Mac and left it for next lesson.

Filming Diary - 01/03/2013

Today we began filming our extra scene. We needed to add some time onto our film, by adding a previously un-filmed scene. The scene takes place in Adrian's office, and Matthew is finally added to the cast list as an unidentified co-worker of Adrian. Below are the photographs taken on the set.

Progress Diary - 22/02/13

Last time in our media lesson, I began to start the film poster idea. For this poster I wanted to make sure that it set the scene and mood for the film. I made the poster using photoshop and used the logo and the name from our blog. I managed to finish the poster and uploaded it to the blog while Matty carried on editing. We also spoke about how we will need to film more scenes that we left out as we found out that our film at the moment is only around two minuits. We then decided to add the reverse scene and more scenes when Sean has the flashback.

Karma Poster Idea

This is my poster idea for our film. I created the poster in Photoshop and used the logo and the title from our blog. I also included a quote from the movie and added the people involved in the production at the bottom of the poster using the font Steel Tongs.

Progress Diary - Kieran Charlesworth

In the last lesson, we managed to get most of the filming done. This was the scene in the car park where Sean is confronted by Connor. We had to wait until it was dark enough to film meaning we had to film after the lesson.
Overall we captured around 20 minutes of footage meaning we had to choose the best shots to cut it down as we had a lot of out takes and errors. We are now going to edit the footage to see if we need to film anymore scenes as Connor is away this week and as he one of the main character we can't film any scenes with him involved.

Filming Diary - 01/02/2013

On our second day of filming, we got through quite a lot, and spent around two hours on the set! We gained access to an undercover car park near college, and used the areas of it wisely, to ensure we kept continuity. This meant that we had to make sure that the car was parked in the same space if we filmed again and the bins. The photographs below show us on the set.

The first day of filming commenced today. We filmed part of our first scene, and part of scene two. We completed the corridor part of scene 1, and the car park part of scene two. The photographs below show us on the set.

Practicing tricky shots

It's nearly time for us to start filming our project so before we went out into the field, we decided to practice a few of the tricky shots we might encounter. To achieve the desired effect, we used various methods and techniques both in production and post production. The finished video is below :-)

Tricky shot list

1 - Match on action when Adrian kicks over the homeless guy’s cup of money. To do this shot we will have to film the whole scene from one angle and then from the other. We will then have to edit both shots together so that the film flows.

2 - All shots with the demon in, where we need to hide his face. This can be achieved by lighting the demon from above or behind, creating shadows and / or a silhouette.

3 - Shot down the corridor as Adrian leaves work - elliptical edit. In order to cut out unnecessary walking shots, the scene showing Adrian walking away from his office will be cut like the shot at 4:43 in this video, except we will slightly crossfade the shots to further exaggerate the passage of time. This will be done by filming him walking down the corridor in one shot. It can then be edited to look like an elliptical shot by cutting a few seconds out and adding a fade.

6 - Match on action when Adrian drops his keys - have to make the demon appear behind him as he bends down to pick up keys, whilst keeping continuity in every other element. To do this shot we will have to film it when he drops his keys all in one shot. Then we could film it from another angle to be able to edit the clips together and create the match on action.

7 - When Adrian's car refuses to start. The sound of engine cranking, and the headlights flickering on and off will be done in an editing suite, rather than being done on-set. They will most probably added in Adobe After Effects with the VideoCopilot lens flare plugin.

8 - Pull focus when Adrian is sitting in his car, and the demon is in the back seat. Focus pulls from Adrian's face, to the demon in the back of the car. This will be done with the manual focusing ring on the lens of the cameras.

9 - Rear view mirror eye-line match. When Adrian gets in his car, he glances at his rear view mirror and sees the demon in the back seat, before spinning around to see it has disappeared. This will require an eye-line match from the drivers' seat of the car, with Adrian's hand adjusting the mirror.

10 - End transition as Adrian is laying on the floor. The shot is meant to look like the transition used in the Final Destination films where the camera quickly zooms into the character's eye then back out again in a different location.

Film Poster Ideas 2 - Person in Background

The second idea we've had for our film poster is to have the main character (Adrian) in the foreground of the poster, with the demon in the background.



The first film for inspiration is 'Sherlock Holmes; A Game of Shadows'. In this poster, Robert Downey Jr is in the foreground of the shot, with another character from the film looking back at him from further down the street. This idea would be good as it would accurately represent how Adrian in our film is unaware of the demon for the main part of the film.






Secondly there is the poster for a film called 'The Unborn'. In this poster the woman looking the mirror sees a strange-looking child looking back at her, but there clearly isn't anyone behind her in reality. This is a similar idea to the shot in our film where Adrian sees the demon in his car through the rear-view mirror, but then turns around and there is nothing there.




Finally, the poster for 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'. This poster shows Harry in the foreground taking up the main focus of the poster, but then there is Professor Snape in the background when you look closer. This is similar to the Sherlock Holmes poster, except in this shot Harry seems to be walking away from Snape, in contrast to Sherlock seeming to stand his ground in the top poster. This may be more relevant to our film as Adrian never stands his ground against the demon, instead constantly tries to run away from it.
